Jeju Island

Jejudo (also known as Jeju Island) is the largest island off the coast of the Korean Peninsula, and the main island of Jeju Province of South Korea. The island lies in the Korea Strait, southwest of South Jeolla Province. The island contains the natural World Heritage Site Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes.

Jejudo has a temperate climate; even in winter, the temperature rarely falls below 0 °C (32 °F). Jeju or Cheju Island is a Korean resort destination known traditionally for its remarkable women divers, who harvest seaweed and shellfish with little more than a knife and no breathing apparatis. This practice has spread throughout coastal Korea and Japan and in those areas, men have tended to stay home to raise the children while the women worked.

Me and my close  friend Belle experience Jeju Island last May 2016. We had a great time, nice weather when we went there. We stayed at one of the most beautiful hotel in Jeju called  Ramada Hotel.  See image below. This hotel has a wonderful architecture and lash food buffet during breakfast. Our hotel room package includes Standard room.

at the Ramada Hotel and Bar

Inside the room has 2 queen size bed. One for me and 1 for my friend Belle.

My friend sleep like a baby each night. There was one morning she said….” I don’t feel like going back to Singapore. I wish my life is like this forever.” Ramada hotel I must say, has very good deals when we book it. They can also offer  you tours around the Island with guides. If you like the comfort of having someone bring you to places you like to see.

Sanbangsan Mountain

is the result of violent volcanic activity some 700,000 to 800,000 years ago and is in fact a huge body of lava. The cliffs on the southern side of the lava dome are marked with a rich variety of curious formations such as weathering pits and talus scree slopes, some of which are as high as 200m. As its name ‘sanbang’ – literally meaning ‘a cave inside a mountain’ – suggests, this mountain contains a cave, which is located about 150m above sea level and has a spectacular view out over the ocean. Due to its close location to the sea and its high elevation, the peak is often ringed with clouds. The upper slopes of the mountain have their own distinct climatic conditions and are protected for their value for botanical research.

Hallasan Mountain

is mostly formed out of basalt. It is also called MT. YeongJusan which means Mount High Enough to Pull the Galaxy. Hallasan comprises 153.112 of the Jeju island. It rises 1,950m above sea level which means this is the highest mountain in South Korea. It is the only park out of 20 not managed by the Korea National Park Service. Mount Hallasan is famous for its vertical ecosystem.

This mountain is easy to hike. You can go to the peak of this mountain and comeback in one day. The admission to go on this mountain is free. It is limited to day hiking.   The best months to climb up the mountain is May, June, July. It takes about 5 hours to reach the peak in a slow pace.

Hallasan stands out at the center of South Korea’s southern most island, boasting at exquisite landscapes due to its varied volcanic topography and vegetation distribution ranging vertically though subtropical, temperature, frigid and alpine zones. This Video below is are some of our activity in Jeju.

  Yongmeori Beach

is a place where Mt. Sanbangsan stretches into the ocean and it looks as if a dragon’s head is going underwater. This area is made of Sa-am stacks, built up over millions of years. There are Gulbangs here which are depressed into the shape of rooms, and wide rocks stacking up on one another along the seashore cliffs which create a majestic scenery by the sea. Along the road down to the seashore, there is the Hamel Castaway Memorial, in remembrance of Hamel who drifted to this place in 1653. Just off to the right of the beach is a soft and dark sandy beach. You can meet the women sea-divers of Jeju who sell sea cucumbers and stroll on the road that spreads along the seashore.

Marine Park

Marine Park is the first national whale experience site with 2 above-ground floors and 1 basement level. It is comprised of a 3D photo zone on the first basement level, an indoor dolphin experience site on the first floor, and children’s aquarium that exhibits 100 species of fish local to the Jeju region on the second floor. Activity programs include feeding dolphins, experiencing being a dolphin trainer, dolphin swimming and snorkeling, diving with dolphins and prenatal education with dolphins. Marine Park participates in ocean animal transportation, as well as rescue and leading trainer business.

Aside from the sight seeing the we did during our stay in Ramada Hotel, we went around the city area to see some local people.
